Child safety standards

Last updated August 26, 2026

WeCrossed has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). This page describes our standards, the measures we have in place, and how to reach us with a concern.

1. Our commitment

We do not allow content or conduct on WeCrossed that sexualizes, endangers, or exploits minors, in any form. This applies to profiles, photos, and any use of the app or its matching protocol, and it holds regardless of where in the world an account is used from.

2. Who can use WeCrossed

WeCrossed is an adults-only app. You must be at least 18 years old to create a profile, and creating one is your confirmation that you meet that requirement. WeCrossed is not directed at, and may not be used by, anyone under 18.

3. Prohibited content and conduct

On WeCrossed, it is never acceptable to:

  • Create a profile representing, or attempt to use the app as, a minor.
  • Upload, request, or share any image or content that sexualizes or exploits a minor.
  • Use WeCrossed's messaging to solicit, discuss, or arrange the abuse or exploitation of a minor elsewhere, or to direct another user toward a minor for that purpose.

We treat any of the above as a serious violation, addressed as described under how we respond.

4. How we reduce risk

  • Age gate. Every profile must confirm it belongs to someone 18 or older before it can be created.
  • On-device nudity screening. Every photo you add to your own profile is checked by a local image classifier before it's saved. A flagged photo is discarded and never added. The same check runs on photos you receive from a match, blurring them behind a tap to reveal.
  • CSAM hash matching (PhotoDNA). Every profile photo is checked against Microsoft's database of known child sexual abuse material before it's ever stored. Your device computes a PhotoDNA hash of the photo, a short fingerprint that can be matched but isn't a copy of the image, and sends only that hash for matching. Microsoft, our subprocessor for this check, never receives the photo itself. A profile with a matching hash is rejected outright.
  • Blocking. You can block anyone from your matches or candidates list at any time, immediately and silently.

More detail on these mechanisms is in our privacy policy, including the CSAM detection section.

5. Reporting a concern

The fastest way to report a profile, message, or behavior you believe involves child sexual abuse or exploitation is the Report button in the app, from the same place you'd block someone. It walks you through choosing a reason, blocks the profile immediately, and sends us a report with that context. No need to wait on a response from us.

You can also email contact@wecrossed.app directly with as much detail as you can safely provide, such as when it happened and how the profile identified itself.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police or emergency services first.

6. How we respond

Profile and message content is normally end-to-end encrypted, so we don't hold a readable copy of it to review on our own initiative. A report from the in-app Report button is the one deliberate exception: it includes what's needed to decrypt that specific profile, so we can actually review what was reported rather than relying only on your description. A report sent by email doesn't include this automatically, so a screenshot or description is what we act on there. See safety and enforcement in our terms for more on what that limits us to.

Where a report gives us enough to identify the account responsible, we remove the profile and block the device from creating a new one. Where a report includes apparent CSAE material itself, we also cooperate with law enforcement and report it to the relevant child protection authority, such as the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as legally required or applicable, without anyone on our side viewing the material itself to make that determination.

Separately from reports, every profile photo is screened automatically against known CSAM using PhotoDNA hash matching, described under how we reduce risk. A photo that matches is blocked before the profile is ever stored, without anyone on our side viewing it.
